Prodigal Daughter
Prodigal Daughter takes a deep, personal look into the immigrant experience through the eyes of the filmmaker and ex punk artist. After 16 years of silence, Valdiviezo reunites with her family in Peru, confronting haunting childhood memories, her youth in war-torn Peru, and a troubled past as an undocumented immigrant in the United States. The documentary offers intimate access to Valdiviezo and her vibrant photo-paintings of her family, weaving a powerful narrative about family bonds, identity, belonging, and the transformative power of art. Through the lens of human rights, gender, and immigration, Prodigal Daughter challenges the "good immigrant" versus "bad immigrant" narrative, providing a more nuanced and complex perspective on migration and diaspora.
